How Do We Talk With God?

Memory verse – One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11:1

Before we go on with Jesus’ teaching on prayer, let’s review what we’ve already learned. When we pray, we address God as our _________. Next, we recognize where He lives, in _________.

Now, as we look again at Luke 18:2, we see Jesus telling His disciples to “hallow” God’s name. Let’s talk a bit about the word “hallow.” In the original Greek, this word means “to make holy,” or “be without sin.” The dictionary adds the meaning “to greatly respect someone.”

If we put those two meanings together, we see that Jesus is saying that we need to talk with God in a highly respectful manner because He is holy and without sin. So we wouldn’t say, “Hey God, what’s up?” or other more common greetings. When we talk/pray with God, we use our best manners like we would guests in our home, only better!

Action and Prayer points – Remember how the angels and all the people in Revelation 5 were singing to God? Today as you talk to God, ask Him to show you His holiness in a way that you can understand, and even sing to Him about His holiness. Then, when He shows you His holiness, tell each other about it! You may even want to share it with other people outside your family!
