Please Forgive Us

Memory verse – One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11:1

Today, let’s move on to the first part of verse 4 in Luke 11. Jesus says we should ask God to forgive our sins. Didn’t we already do that when we became His friends? Yes, we asked forgiveness for the sins we knew we had.

Sometimes, we have sins we aren’t sure about, like we might be holding a grudge against someone for hurting us. Or maybe we have sinned today or last night, and we need to ask God’s forgiveness and possibly another person’s forgiveness, if we hurt them.

Remember that we have asked God to do His will here on earth, and He does that by making us more like Him. To be more like Him, we have to have our hearts cleaned up. We can’t have bad thoughts staying in them, or plans to harm another person. So, when we see those thoughts or plans, or we’ve already done something to another person, we need to ask forgiveness. Then, God forgives us and cleans that part of our heart. That way, we have room for God to put His love in us for that other person.

Action and Prayer points – Today, ask God to show you any sin that is in your heart and then ask Him to forgive you. If you have hurt another person (including a brother or sister), ask for their forgiveness too!
